• Test Collections Changes Against a Control GroupBefore-and-after charts mislead in collections because salary dates, portfolio mix, team changes and regression to the mean move results too. Test each change on one bucket against a random control group, decide the metric and threshold first, and compare promises kept, complaints and breaches as well as cure rate.
• Hardship Calls Need a Person, Not a ScriptAutomated reminders and voice agents suit borrowers who forgot or need a date. Hardship, disputes and restructuring need a trained person with judgement and authority. Automation’s job there is to spot the signals early and hand over cleanly, with the conversation summary and account history, so agents have time for the calls that matter.

• Loan Collection Strategy by DPD BucketLenders group overdue loans into DPD buckets so each stage gets its own treatment. Before and just after the due date, reminders, payment links and promise dates usually work; mid buckets need a trained person; late buckets go to field. Across all of them, rank by likelihood to pay, record promises and send hardship to a person.
• WhatsApp EMI Reminders and Payment LinksWhatsApp EMI reminders work because borrowers read them when it suits them and can pay through a link in the same chat. Send a reminder before the due date, on it and shortly after a miss, ask for a promise date, remind on that date and re-queue broken promises, using approved templates within contact-hour rules.
• Collection Call Compliance Checklist for LendersA collection call compliance checklist covers contact hours, identification, the approved script, tone, disputes, hardship, the recorded outcome and the do-not-call list. Score every call, people and voice agents alike, rather than a sample, review low scores daily and enforce contact hours in the system. Confirm specific rules with your compliance team.

• Free calculators

• Loan Collection Efficiency and Cure Rate CalculatorCollection efficiency = amount collected ÷ amount due × 100. Cure rate = accounts back to current ÷ accounts in the bucket at the start; roll-forward rate = accounts moved to the next bucket ÷ accounts at the start. This free calculator shows all three; lenders define them slightly differently, so match your own MIS.

• Playbooks

• Broken Promise to Pay: A Collections PlaybookA promise to pay is only useful if it is recorded as data, reminded the day before and on the date, and matched to payments daily. Mark broken promises automatically, re-queue them the next morning to another channel or a person, and change treatment for repeat breakers. Track promise rate and promise kept rate.

• Comparisons

• Propensity-to-Pay vs Amount-based Call ListsCalling in order of amount overdue makes easy cures wait behind accounts that will not pay this week. Ranking by propensity to pay and best channel reaches likely payers first, keeps agents for cases that need a person and routes hard accounts to field. Refresh daily and prove it on one bucket against a control group.
