How it is calculated

Mean kinetic temperature (MKT) = (ΔH ÷ R) ÷ −ln[(e−ΔH/RT₁ + … + e−ΔH/RTₙ) ÷ n], with every temperature T in kelvin (°C + 273.15), R = 0.0083144 kJ/mol·K and ΔH the activation energy, for which 83.144 kJ/mol is the commonly used default. MKT weights warm readings more heavily than the plain average, so it is always at or above the arithmetic mean. Use equally spaced readings, and follow your QA procedure for the activation energy and the period assessed. Read how to investigate an excursion.

Questions

What is mean kinetic temperature?

A single temperature that expresses the combined thermal effect of fluctuating storage temperatures, weighting warm periods more heavily than a simple average.

What activation energy is used for MKT?

83.144 kJ/mol is the commonly used default; your QA procedure may specify a different value for a product.
