How it is calculated

Days of cover = (stock on hand + in transit) ÷ planned use per day. Order within = days of cover − supplier lead time − safety margin; at zero or below, order now. Order quantity = planned use per day × (lead time + safety margin + days the order should cover) − (stock on hand + in transit), never below zero. Count in-transit only if it arrives before stock runs out. Read raw material planning.
