• Why an AI Tutor Should Never Do Mental MathsLanguage models explain well but are unreliable at arithmetic, and in commerce and finance the numbers are the subject. We argue an AI tutor should take every figure from a visible calculator or rate table, which is how Teach-Back works, while never doing graded work for the student.
• Students Should See What an AI Tutor RemembersTutor memory lets an AI schedule revision on each student’s real gaps, but hidden memory makes students afraid to be wrong. We argue memory must be visible, editable and erasable by the student, with no ID numbers or OTPs in prompts, which is how Teach-Back handles it.

• The Teach-Back Method for Students: How It WorksThe teach-back method asks a student to explain a topic in their own words, as if teaching it, and to answer “why?” and “what if?” questions until the explanation holds. Gaps appear where the explanation goes vague, which makes it well suited to commerce subjects full of rules that are easy to memorise and forget.
• AI and Academic Integrity: A Checklist for CollegesColleges can keep academic integrity with AI by writing a clear policy, separating practice from graded work, preferring tools that coach instead of answer, assessing understanding through explanations, using real local cases, making calculations traceable, protecting privacy and giving faculty visibility of where students are stuck.
• Socratic AI Tutor for Commerce StudentsA Socratic AI tutor guides students with questions and hints instead of answers, checks reasoning at each step and only moves on when the student can explain it. For commerce, it should start from real cases, show every calculation through a visible tool, never do graded work and remember each student’s confusions.

• Playbooks

• Case-Based Teaching for Commerce: A PlaybookCase-based teaching for commerce maps the syllabus, picks one real case per topic from businesses students recognise, prepares a case file, lets students work it with calculators, asks them to teach it back against a simple rubric and revisits gaps before the test. The syllabus does not change; the examples do.

• Comparisons

• Socratic AI Tutor vs Answer Chatbot for StudentsA general answer chatbot gives answers and will write graded work; a Socratic AI tutor asks the next question, coaches without doing graded work, takes numbers from visible tools, follows the syllabus, uses real cases, keeps a memory students can edit and gives faculty a view of where the cohort is stuck.
