How many portable GPS devices does a branch need?

Each device is busy for the trip and then for the days it takes to collect and recharge it. Size stock from dispatches and that cycle time.

Days each device is busy per trip–
Devices in use at any time–
Devices to stock (with buffer)–

How it is calculated

Cycle days per device = average transit days + days to collect, return and recharge. Devices in use = tracked dispatches per day × cycle days. Devices to stock = devices in use × (1 + buffer), rounded up. A shorter recollection time reduces stock more than anything else; read the device recollection playbook. Single-use devices are not recollected, so for those lanes set the return days to zero and plan purchases per trip instead.

Questions

How many portable GPS devices do I need?

Tracked dispatches per day multiplied by the days each device is busy (transit plus collection and recharge), plus a spare buffer.

How can I need fewer devices?

Shorten the time from arrival to collection and recharge; every day saved reduces the number of devices in circulation.
