CityWatch: guides, playbooks and tools.
Everything we have written about the problems CityWatch solves, in one place.
Guides
- Urban Flood Early Warning System: How It WorksAn urban flood early warning system combines rain gauges, drain and channel levels, pump telemetry, citizen complaints and drainage maps, and alerts named owners when rain rate and channel trend cross a threshold for specific wards, treating silent sensors and pumps as unknown rather than fine.
- Monsoon Preparedness Checklist for MunicipalitiesA municipal monsoon preparedness checklist: map drains, pumps, manholes and low-lying wards; assign desilting per segment with geotagged before/after photos; set ward owners, night contacts and crews; open and test a WhatsApp complaint channel; agree alert rules; and report daily from the record.
- Drain Desilting Proof of Work: Photos, Not RegistersDrain desilting proof of work replaces claimed lengths in a register with mapped drain segments, each assigned to an owner and closed only with geotagged, time-stamped before and after photos at that location, shown by ward so gaps are visible before the monsoon.
Playbooks
- Playbook: A WhatsApp Desk for Civic ComplaintsA municipal WhatsApp complaint desk publishes one number, locates every photo on the map against a drain segment, groups duplicates, assigns the nearest crew with an ETA, tells the citizen on the same chat, closes with a photo and reviews open tickets and acknowledgement times by ward every morning.
Comparisons
- Reactive vs Early-warning Flood Response in CitiesReactive flood response sees the problem after streets flood, assumes pumps run and reconstructs events from memory. An early-warning control tower alerts when rain rate and channel trend cross a threshold, shows real pump status, routes crews to located tickets and replays every event with sources.
