OEM quality control: how a brand checks what its manufacturing partners make.
When a brand makes through OEM partners in several states, its QA team cannot stand at every line. Quality control has to travel with the product instead.
OEM quality control is the set of checks a brand uses to make sure goods made by its contract manufacturers (OEM partners) match the brand’s specification before they are packed and shipped.
How it is usually done
Method
What it gives
What it misses
Factory visit by brand QA
First-hand view of the line
Only the days and units visited
Sample inspection of a lot
A statistical view of the lot
Most individual pieces are never checked
Partner’s own QC sign-off
Coverage of every lot
Independence; no evidence to review later
Checks at the brand warehouse
Catches errors before the customer
Only after packing and freight, so rework costs twice
A process that scales across partners
Write the spec per SKU: each dimension, its tolerance and the label details.
Identify every piece with its own barcode from the purchase order.
Capture evidence at the OEM line, in a fixed sequence, with the measurement visible.
Let brand QA decide from the evidence, remotely, and record the reason for every rejection.
Block packing and loading of anything that has not passed.
Keep the evidence on file, findable by barcode.
An example
A brand sells restaurant table tops made by three OEM partners. The spec says length, width and thickness, each with a tolerance. A top made too thick is caught at the partner’s line from its photo, sent back with the reason, and never reaches the warehouse or a restaurant.
How AutoQC does it
AutoQC gives every piece one barcode, printed in bulk from the purchase order and stitched or fixed to the piece at the OEM unit. A QC photographer then takes four photos in a locked order (length, width, height at the barcode, and the MRP label on the pack) with the tape readable and the barcode in frame, guided in Hindi and English. Each measurement is checked against the spec and its tolerance. Brand QA reviews the evidence from anywhere and passes, sends back for redo with a reason, or holds the piece. Only a piece in the “QC passed” state can be packed, labelled or scanned onto the truck; anything else is refused at loading. Every photo is stamped with barcode, user, location and time, and each piece has a one-page evidence PDF with the PO, SKU, OEM unit, photographer, reviewer and dispatch truck.
Questions
What is OEM quality control?
The checks a brand uses to make sure goods made by its contract manufacturers match its specification before they are packed and shipped.
How can brand QA check OEM partners without visiting?
By requiring photo evidence of each piece’s measurements and label at the partner’s line, reviewed remotely against the spec, with packing blocked until a piece passes.
Why is checking at the brand warehouse too late?
By then the piece has been packed and shipped; a reject means rework and freight twice.
